The Positive Influence on the World English by CMC

CMC (Computer Multimedia Communication), as a new type of communication, is universal in the modern world, which really plays an important role in the world English although it is regarded as a new term. Actually, the world of computer multimedia communication presents a challenging but beneficial domain. There is a big challenge for the study of English learners with their opportunity to participate in the global speech community after CMC affected the world English, and CMC speech communities are dominated by English norms, in which nonnative speakers of English participate like e-mail and chatting groups. (Sociocultural Theory and Computer-Mediated Communication-based Language Learning, 2008)
Actually, the English as influenced by CMC is easier to speak and write with its use of simplified registers and its organization structure. It plays an important role in foreign language education to access to knowledge and power. The results from Facebook showed that the participants had positive attitudes towards using CMC to improve their English. (Hsieh, 2009)
Sociolinguistics and Computer‐mediated Communication
Indeed people usually associate with their relatives and friends such day-to –day relationship via CMC as reciprocity and a solid social support. Wed better see CMC as a commonly used way, which generated and maintained a personal social network, and not to over emphasize their specificity, sociologist Wellman Berry (1983) said.
English influenced by CMC is a source of citizen participation and new personal relationships. It can strengthen the communitys participation in the Internet. The surveys in 1996, 1997 and 2000 are the evidence of the impact that e*perience and skills in using the CMC might affect more than demographic variables on community participation and the formation of new relationships. (Wellman, 1983) In contrast, a greater degree of social support between Internet use and linking more community involvement may even be based on social objectives and the use of CMC.
